The concept is excellent. The performance is too. Many reviews mentioned getting shocks from it, which I can attest to, which is the reason I returned it. These shock points come from rivets, which are unfortunately placed on either side of the handles. These handles are just a hard plastic. So overall it does exactly what its supposed to do and for a vacuum sander its a cheaper deal than others. Hyde should modify the mounting rivets, and prevent this shocking hazard. After using it for 15 minutes, I packed it up and went back to regular pole sander.,

The end of the flex hose and the black plastic fittings on the poles are essentially the same OD/ID diameters. With effort (and heating with hot water) one can force the vacuum hose over the pole fitting, but the pole fitting is tapered and too short to gain any purchase. The stiff hose easily detaches from the pole during use. I will probably tape the connection, finish this job, and return the unit to Amazon after forwarding this review to Hyde Tools customer service.Update:After taping the pole/hose connection I found both poles used together were too flimsy to make good sander contact with the ceiling. I read that this sander removed up to 90% of the dust, which to me was definitely good. However I still put up plastic covers on doorways and over counters etc in the room I was sanding, this was a bit of overkill. I personally feel that it removed more like 98% of the dust and was a gem to work with. I have done a lot of drywall sanding, much of it due to applying too much mud in the first place, and wish I had found this tool long ago. After reading almost all the reviews on here, I can say most people's complaints are not valid. Most people on here have never done any drywall sanding before and are complaining about drywall sanding in general, not this product. I'm not a professional production taper, but I am a professional carpenter that does some patch/tape/paint as a part of my work in my 15 year career.Don't listen to the naysayers and homeowners. This sander works and it was designed for professionals. It isn't a production tool. In a production setting there is either very little dust control and no need for vacuums while sanding--OR--the tapers will use electric sanders with vacuums. A vacuum pole sander is just too slow for that kind of work. What it is good for is sanding small to large patches and small projects. A hand vacuum sander of any kind is going to make you sweat. Last year I removed the popcorn ceiling in our family room. Then did the patching and repairs. Then the sanding with just a regular pole sander. I had to remove all the furniture and cover all the walls and floors as well as seal off the room from the rest of the house. Still dust found it’s way out to other parts of the house. Also I had to wear some goggles and a heavy duty mask to protect myself. It sucked!!! So this year the popcorn came down in the rooms upstairs.
